Chemo Style: BALD IS BEAUTIFUL

By acolantin Monday, March 26, 2007

My Mom, My Inspiration. My mom was diagnosed with breast cancer in July of 2006. She had both breasts removed shortly after her diagnosis. I was very worried about how my mom would deal with all that was going on with her.

I live in Alberta and my mom in British Columbia. So it is not like I could see her on a daily basis. When she started chemo I would phone to see how she was doing. When she first stated to lose her hair my dad shaved her head. She sent me a picture I could not believe how beautiful she is.

For Christmas I did up a basket of things that would help her relax or just make her feel happy. In this basket I put in some temporary tattoos. I had read a story in Chicken Soup for the Soul Breast Cancer Survivor where a women had put them where her breasts were. It picked up her spirits a lot so I thought maybe it might help my mom if she was having a down day.

We went home for Christmas she was thrilled with the basket and the tattoos. She did use the tattoos and now buys them herself and this is what she does with her tattoos. Mom, I Love You.

What a beautiful idea.  Do you have any advice on how you picked which tattoos you thought your mom would like?

Thanks for the inspiration!

My mom loves flowers birds and all things beautiful so it was easy. She now buys her own tatoos she gets them at her local dollar store.

Amazing.  I have so many questions. I hope you don't mind sharing!

Does she cleanse her head or anything to prepare for the new tattoo?

How long do the tattoos last, and how often does she change them?

How do you remove them?  With baby oil?

Thanks again for the inspiration!

I can't believe my mom's pic is actually online. She is one heck of a person. She is very determined not to let anything get her down, but at the same time family support helps too. Isn't she beautiful with her tatties? Hers puts mine to shame and mine won't come off ;)
