Switching Employer Insurance Plans with Breast Cancer

By Phyllis Johnson, Health Guide Wednesday, April 21, 2010
Yesterday was my birthday, a very busy day at work.  I would have liked to rush home after work to enjoy a few quiet moments before my husband and I went out to celebrate.  But I had another meeting—an insurance meeting.   My employer is changing our health insurance options....

Thanks so much for sharing your thoughts here. Amazing how our perspectives change, isn't it?! Along with treatment, thank God - I'm glad you were on the "right side of the statistics" for IBC all those years ago. And I'll bet there are hudnreds of parents and students of yours who feel the same way. Happy Birthday! Happy Anniversary! Here's to life. PJH

You rock my world! Happy Birthday!

I am so amazed by the way you described the process of the last 12 years. How amazing.

My hubby went with the better of the insurance plans...way before we had any idea...he says he just had a "feeling" we were going to need it. Weird? It may seem like a waste for people as young as us, but he thought, if something does go down, the yearly cost of this insurance will pay itself off. He was right!

Have a wonderful year, and many, many more. Teaching your students, and us here at BCN, I am so grateful to you.

Love Peggie.

Thanks, Peggie.  We also went for the best insurance even when we were young.  We were remarkably healthy until I hit 50.  In 8 months of treatment, our insurance company paid out way more than we had ever paid in all those years when we didn't need to make any claims.  I'm so glad insurance is there for you when you need it.

Don't you know it! Insurance is something you compalin about when you have good but costly coverage and compalin about it if you don't have any, good or good enough insurance when you need it!

My husband, who spent several years selling life insurance, describes insurance as a product you hope you never need, but are very grateful for when you do need it.

Happy belated Birthday! Hope you had a good day on your birthday, and wishing you many more.
