Most of the time I don't get angry about breast cancer. I can think of more traumatic things that could happen to me - total paralysis, rape, murder. In support groups, I've been amazed at how often women talk about being fortunate to have breast cancer compared to other health problems. "My bro...

Thursday, September 04, 2008 at 12:27 PMAs always, Phyllis, thanks so much for the well written article about IBC and Patti Bradfield .. she is one remarkable person.
Reiterating, On Tuesday, June 24, 2008, Rep. Carolyn McCarthy introduced H.Res. 1300, which would support efforts to raise awareness, improve education, and encourage research of inflammatory breast cancer. For those who are reading this PLEASE write or call your Federal Representative in your district asking them to co-sign on Carolyn McCarthy's bill H. Res. 1300 that was introduced to the legislature in June 2008. It's that simple! I'm happy to say IL Congresswoman Jan Schakowsky and IL Congressman Bobby Rush co-signed on this bill. When this bill gets passed, but only with your help, EVERY doctor and EVERY woman, man and teenagers will know about this form of breast cancer.
Bills can be tossed out quickly, therefore I'm urging anyone who is reading this to please find out who your federal representative is and ask them to co-sign on Representative McCarthy's bill. If you need help in finding out who your Federal Representative is please write to me and I'll be happy to help you. This is SO important to so many and without question WHEN this bill is passed lives WILL be saved! The majority of our population is familiar with the word lump when it comes to breast cancer. PLEASE help us get this bill passed so millions of people will know you don't have to have a lump to have breast cancer and there is more than one form of breast cancer! Thanks again to both P.J. and Phyllis for the excellent work they continue to do!

IBC is so insidious... and it's amazing to me that more PCPs don't know a thing about it, as you said. Better to be overly cautious than cavalierly dismiss pain and swelling as an infection. Hope this bill passes quickly. -PJH
