Do you speak Research?  Gayla Little didn’t know the language before her Stage IIIB Inflammatory Breast Cancer (IBC) diagnosis in 2000 at age 44.  “When I was first diagnosed I got into a clinical trial immediately.  I didn’t know anything about that world of rese...

Thank you, Phyllis, for sharing my story in your column.  All of us, who have been through that awful breast cancer diagnosis, know how much we need hope when we are in treatment.  People need to know that it is possible to survive this awful disease.  God bless the researchers who spend their lives searching for the cause and the cure.  God bless the Avon Foundation for funding training programs like Project Lead, so that lay people like you and me can talk to researchers about the importance of their research.  God bless the caring oncologists who are willing to fight for our lives, even when the outlook is grim.  Fifty years ago, my Aunt Louise died of a "female cancer."  How lonely those women must have been to live in a society that wouldn't even let them talk about the disease that was killing them.  Today, our dialogue brings us together and gives us hope.  Thank you, Phyllis, for all you do to contribute to that dialogue which strengthens us all.

Thank you for reminding us of the whole army of those who have gone before us and those who are working sight unseen to find the cure.

What a wonderful article about a wonderful person who deserves much recognition for all she has done .. Gayla Little!  Kudos to all the courageous women and men who participate in clinical trials; we owe them so much and are so very grateful to these very special people.  Because of people like Gayla, lives have been saved.  Thanks to you P.J. and Phyllis for your wonderful gift of writing as brilliantly as you do, making others realize they are NOT alone.

You have saved more than a few lives from your work with IBC advocacy in the last decade, as well, Mare.  Thank you for your tireless efforts and your kind comments.  Gayla
