I have been diagnosed with IDC Grade 1, it has not been staged yet, another surgery follows for that next week. I am wanting to go on vacation, after surgery minimum, they want to do radiation for 6 weeks. my vacation schedule comes right in the middle of what would be my treatment. So, I am thinking of postponing the ductectomy for another month, which would allow me to go on our family vacation, and then start the radiation therapy.

Q: Can grade 1 idc be at stage 2 or 3? or would that be a higher grade idc?

Tough call... A grade 1 IDC tumor is likely to be a lower stage; but you can't rule out a higher stage till you have your surgery, and a biopsy of your lymph nodes. So you won't know what you're dealing with, as far as seriousness goes, till you've had surgery. They might possibly find cancer in your lymph nodes, in which case you're at least stage 2 and the whole schedule changes - you may need chemotherapy in addition to radiation, or you may need a mastectomy, etc. Suggestion: Have the surgery, then make your decision about vacation (with your oncologist's guidance), once you get your pathology report following the surgery.
