I am a Breast Cancer survivor now for about 2 years. I had a double mastectomy with reconstruction, two lymph nodes removed on the right side, and six rounds of chemo. I am on Aromasin, 25mg, for five years. I have had this sore throat, difficulty swallowing,and hoarseness for 4 months now, I have been to my Family Dr, an ENT specialist, a Gastroenterologist, and everything seems pretty normal. They can't tell me why my throat feels tight, sore and have difficulty swallowing. I had an enodoscopy and still have no answers. My sisters both have had goiters, but my blood work shows no problems with my thyroid. Could it be my thyroid? What could it be?

I assume you are writing us at the HealthCentral Breast Cancer site because part of you is worried that maybe this is some type of breast cancer-related recurrence. It's good that you have been proactive in seeing your doctors and trying to find out what is causing this problem. Have you talked with the oncologist who originally treated your breast cancer? I'm sure that you've mentioned your breast cancer history to each of the doctors you have seen. A PET scan and/or tumor marker tests might help rule out a metastasis of your cancer as a cause of the problem. I wish I had some answers for you, but all I can suggest is that you keep on doing what you have been doing--being assertive about finding out what is going on. I hope you soon get some answers.

Hi , i too am on Aromasin I was diagnosed in 1995 with breast cancer,, had double mastectomy, ovaries removed and radiotherapy, I have recently finished my 4th course of chemotherapy and (may) be starting a fith next month, I say maybe as cancer spread to lungs two years ago and Im not sure if after all these years of treatment I can take much more!
But back to the Aromasin, I to have trouble with sore throat and swollowing, but mostly, severe joint amd muscle pain in legs feet knees, elbow hands etc, i have been told these are not so common but everyone I speak to who is on this drug seems to be having some very uncomfortable side effects.
Maybe you should contact your consultant and tell him you would like to try a different drug , that is what im going to do as soon as poss.
