Just Diagnosed with Cancer? Chat with Experts

Tuesday, November 06, 2012 Rosalind, Community Member, asks

Q: I have an itchy lymph gland leading to the right breast for several years. It only itches me when I have been sitting quietly for a time but recently it has become very itchy and more frequently.

Also the left lymph gland leading to the left breast has become itchy too but not as frequently. I have regular breast Xrays that are all clear. I am 71 years of age. Rosalind rbentrenous@gmail.com

Hi Rosalind - I assume these ymph glands are under your arms - or did you mean they're closer to your breast? Either way, itchy glands wouldn't generally be considered a sign of breast cancer, especially when the issue has been going on for so long - and now involves both breasts. Have you spoken to your doctor about this? Even post-menopause, we can still have some hormonal issues. Or the itch might be a sign of a more systemic problem. At any rate, I'd speak to your doctor; even if this turns out to be nothing serious, it would be nice to get some relief, I'm sure! Good luck - PJH
