Andrea, the CA 125 test is mainly used to monitor ovarian cancer patients' progress during treatment. It is a type of test called a tumor marker. The problem with tumor marker tests is that they are not consistently reliable. Some women's levels will go down after treatment and up again if they have a recurrence. For other people fluctuations seem almost random. The dramatic decrease in your levels may mean that your chemo and radiation has worked because although CA 125 is primarily for ovarian cancer it can also measure changes in the status for breast cancer patients. You will want to ask your doctor how he or she is interpreting this decrease. At this point, your doctor may feel that it is too soon to know if you are one of the people for whom the test is accurate, or he may see this test as confirmation that your treatment worked.
