Hi Andrea, Your Oncologist will be the one to tell you so see one as soon as possible. I started mine roughly about two months after surgery if that is any help.

I started Arimidex 2 months after, I know others that didnt start until after other treatment. Its up to your oncologist. Dont worry, I am sure someone, your previous oncologist would have stepped in had he thought you needed it asap. Laughing Take Care !!

Andrea, the tamoxifen is a nice insurance policy against reucrrence; even without it, though, chances are your cancer won't come back, so waiting a few extra weeks shouldn't make the difference. Good luck - PJH

Hi, my name is Angi. I'm 35 now and I'm a TWO time Breast Cancer...

Friday, November 06, 2009

The first time I had breast cancer, my oncologist had waited till after I had finished chemo to start me on Femara, which was roughly 6 months after my mastectomy.  Three years later when my plastic surgeon found a tumor in my chest wall, my onoclogist waited till after I completed radiation before giving me Tamoxifen, which was 8 months after surgery.  The waiting time varies, but I've not known a single person to start immediately.  So I think that even with the delay of changing docs, you will be fine.

Good luck!

Angi
