Elma, you are entering one of the most stressful periods in modern health care--waiting.  I can tell you that most lumps are not cancer, but I can't promise you that your lump, the only lump you really care about, is benign.  Painful lumps are more likely to be cysts, which are not dangerous.  Keep reminding yourself that the chances are this is not cancer, and try to stay busy with other things that will keep your mind off of this.

When is your scan scheduled?  If it is more than a few days, ask if you can be notified if someone else cancels, and let the office know you are willing to be squeezed in at the last minute because you are feeling anxious about the test.

Elma, I agree with Phyllis - this doesn't sound like a cancerous lump, as it wouldn't be mobile. This sounds very much like a cyst. However, no way to be sure till you get the next test. Please read our post on fear; it may help you during this stressful waiting period. Hope things turn out well for you - PJH
