Just Diagnosed with Cancer? Chat with Experts

Saturday, October 04, 2008 Hayley asks

Q: I am 17 and have several small lumps that come and go around my nipple on both breasts. please help.

I noticed them in the bath tonight, on the coloured area around the nipple, but now they seem to have gone. I guess they come and go. What are they? Should I be concerned? Could it be related to my nipples not wanting to become erect or not stay erect for very long?

there is also no history of breast cancer in my family on either side.

Hi Hayley: What you describe isn't a breast cancer symptom. I'm thinking it's probably hormonal? Next time you go for a physical, ask the doctor what's up; (s)he can probably help. I'm betting it's something to do with your breasts growing and changing as you go through puberty. good luck - PJH
