Q: Infection 6 months after surgery?

I had lumpectomy and radiation 6 months ago. I got punched on breast and within a day it was incredibly swollen, red and I have a low grade fever with alot of pain. Could an impact injury cause infection in a 6 month post surgical site?

It's possible, Julie, that your lymph nodes were damaged by the radiation, and thus you're more prone to swelling from any breast injury now. I'm not sure how an infection would be related to either a blow or your surgery/radiation, this far out; but at any rate, you should see a doctor ASAP, OK? You don't want this to get any worse than it is. I'd suggest cold compresses until you can see someone. Best of luck - PJH
