Wednesday, February 02, 2011 gray asks

Q: I have had a lump on my left breast for about two years, but the other night I pulled my left breast toward my right one, and I saw the lump. It goes to my nipple. Should I be concerned.

Gray, you should be concerned anough to see a doctor; any breast change, such as a lump, should be reported to the doctor after 1 month. Snce you've had this lump for 2 years and apparently it hasn't changed enough to worry you, it's probably a cyst or fibroadenoma (benign breast tumor). Also, you seem to describe it as elongated, rather than round, which would also point to a fibroadenoma. However, only some diagnostic testing can rule out breast cancer; and any time you feel a lump, you definitely need to rule that out. So call the doctor, describe your symptoms, and go from there, OK? PJH
