Just Diagnosed with Cancer? Chat with Experts

Tuesday, August 16, 2011 Chrisitna asks

Q: I have a VERY sharp pain in my left breast around the nipple. I've never had this kind of pain before, is it a sign of breast cancer?

I am 41 years old. The pain just came on this morning, I have no family histroy of breast cancer and have had a historectomy in 2008. What can cause this extreme pain in my left breast?

Christina, this doesn't sound like a breast cancer symptom; pain seldom is, and then, it's usually more soreness than sharp pain. But since the pain is on your left side, you'll want to consider/rule out a cardiac issue. In the meantime, please read our post on breast pain; hopefully you'll find some information there that'll help clarify what might be causing this pain. Hope it diesappears on its own soon- PJH
