Q: My doctor put me on an estrogen therapy for hot flashes, can this flair up my fibroid cystic breast disease? I stopped taking them about 2 wks ago but my breasts are still swollen and very sore

Yes, since estrogen is a hormone, and fibrocystic change responds to hormones, this could definitely be the culprit for your sore, swollen breasts. Reprt this side effect to your doctor, and see what s/he wants you to do... Also, hopefully you'll be taking just a low dose of estrogen for a short amount of time; prolonged hormone therapy raises your risk of breast cancer, and you definitely don't want to go there! Good luck - hope the pain abates soon. PJH
