It is not true that a biopsy spreads cancer.  The important thing about the biopsy is that it found out what is wrong and will give you a chance to treat your cancer and get well.  As you learn more about what type of breast cancer you have, you will find out your treatment options.  These days most breast cancers can be successfully treated so that the patient can live out her normal life span.  Without the biopsy, the cancer would have continued to grow and would have eventually spread to a point where it would have been very hard to treat.  Come back here anytime you have more questions as you go through treatment.  I wish you the best.

Melanie, Phyllis is right - a biopsy doesn't "spread" breast cancer. Please read our post on diagnosis, and our post on treatment; you'll find lots of links to articles that'll prove very useful as you start making decisions about what comes next, and then begin your tretment. Best of luck - PJH
