I am starting my chemo next week so, in 4 days. I am scared..... reading all about side effects, I understand that I will be feeling sick. Now, I feel great, after the surgery. My chemo will be ACT even though my lymph nodes were clear. I don't know what to expect and that is what scares me..... Please tell me something

No one gets all of those side effects, but no one can predict which ones will bother you, so they have to list them all.  Today's anti-nausea medicines have dramatically reduced problems with nausea for many people.  I'd recommend that you take any anti-nausea meds your doctor gives you before you feel sick for the first chemo.  Most people will feel some fatigue (OK I felt extreme fatigue Frown), but others just breeze through the whole process.  Once you get through the first cycle of treatment, you'll have a much better idea of how you will respond.   Although there may be some cumulative symptoms, there probably won't be a big difference from cycle to cycle.

Hi Dance, I had six sessions of chemo. for advanced Stage 4 Cancer. I can honestly say I did not have any of the symptoms that I was warned about..The first treatment I  was fine for the first three days, then I started to feel very tired. I had a slight sore throat and swollen glands either side of my neck. I was given anti sickness pills and liquid to take for the first three days after each session. I slept, a lot. I had a very burning sensation on my scalp and it was very itchy a couple of days later my hair started to fall out. This was followed by eyebrows and lashes. In fact I looked like a new born baby , not one hair on my whole body.I had already invested in a selection of wigs, being very vain ,scarves and the gypsy look was not my style. lol..

I had my treatment every 21 days, first a blood test ,then if all is OK you have your next session. I did have to have a couple of blood transfusions because although my blood count was good I became anemic. They said afterwards I would feel wonderful but in fact that was not the case . I had a terrible cold  and told the nurses I am sure the blood donor must have had the flu the day he or she donated.

You have to think bed, sofa...so buy a lot of DVDs of all your favourite movies, you will find that you fall asleep and never see the end of any of them.

The one thing that will keep you going, is after every session just say to yourself one session less. Please do not be afraid , it does not hurt and you are fighting to rid yourself of this dreadful disease.I wish you the very best of luck , and just think this time next year, now, will be a distant memory.

Hi - As Phyllis said, no one gets ALL the side effects; and many women do quite well on chemo. Please read our AC + T FAQS, to know what you might expect. You may surprise yourself and sail right through this... Please stay in touch here - we can help. PJH Reply
