My wife had to wait approx. 6 weeks from discovery of lump to mastectomy, is this reasonable?

Waiting for test results seemed agonizingly slow. The cancer was of a particularly aggressive type, and the tumour double in radius during the wait period. With the mastectomy, sentinel nodes were removed, and biopsy showed three-quarters of them to be infected. My wife is now very sick indeed...
