Hi Shakuntia - I know Laurie can answer this better than I. But once breast cancer has metastasized - to liver, lungs, brain, bones - there's nothing you can take  not hormonal therapy, not chemo, not radiation - that can guarantee eradication of cancer. Femara would hopefully help to keep it from spreading, although usually that's given much earlier, before it's spread at all... I would just keep in close touch with her doctors, and report all symptoms ASAP. So sorry for your troubles - keep in touch here, and good luck. -PJH

Hi there,

I am so sorry this is happening to someone you love. I am not terribly familiar with Femara, however it is highly unlikely that it or any one thing caused the recurrence. Some cancers are simply more agressive than others and harder to beat back.

And PJ is right, once cancer has metastasized, it can never be cured. It can, however, often be controlled very effectively. My cancer metastasized to my liver. I have responded incredibly well to treatment, though, and live pain free and have lots of energy most of the time. And new advances are being discovered every day.

Best of luck to you and please stay in touch-

Laurie
