Q: i AM 57 YRS OLD POST MENOPAUSAL AND HAVE HAD MANY MAMMOGRAMS BECAUSE MY SISTER HAD BREAST CANCER.THE LAST MAMO LEFT ME WITH SHARP PAIN IN MY SIDE/LIKE A RIB WAS BROKE. WHY DID THIS HAPPEN?MAMO WAS NEG

Well, mammograms can be fairly aggressive, as far as how they make you bend and twist, and how much pressure they apply. Could be you did crack a rib, which might be possible if you're trending towards osteoporosis - have you had a baseline DEXA scan (bone density scan) yet?

 

You might also have a pulled muscle, or a bruise. If the pain doesn't abate within a few days, I'd call your GP and report your symptoms - maybe there's something s/he can prescribe to help you with the pain. Hope you feel better soon- PJH
