but now there are 4 uneven tender red spots that seem to have a central point that is more red. SO there is the outer mottled red then a central more red spot with a center point like a bite would be. I was told by my doctor that it was shingles, but I have not had any blisters. The strange sensation is off and on and is painful at times, but always itchy feeling like if you were wearing a wool sweater. Any ideas? I have not been sick or felt out of the norm. I also have two spots right below each other just as I described directly to the right of my spine. They also have no blistering or crusting, started itchy, but sore now and have a central point in the middle of the spot. All of this has gone on for about 9 days.  Your idea please, maybe something else I can research that could be going on. I had a good mammogram very recently. Never a problem with my breasts except being fibrocystic. I am 62. If I asked for a shingles test do you really think it would be positive?

I'm not a doctor, so I don't know if there is a simple test to check for shingles.  When I had shingles, the diagnosis was made based on the doctor's visual exam.  Shingles doesn't always present with blisters.  If the spots on your back are the same problem as the places on your breast, this is probably not breast cancer.  If the back spots look different, then ruling out inflammatory breast cancer as the cause of the redness should be part of the diagnostic process.

Did your doctor prescribe an anti-viral drug?  My shingles went away quickly after I started the medicine although my doctor did tell me that if the drug isn't started quickly, it doesn't work as well.  It sounds like you question this diagnosis, so I would suggest you get a second opinion.  A dermatologist would probably be a good doctor to see because if this isn't shingles, a dermatologist would be most likely to recognize other types of rashes.
