Q: I have a hard lump in my right armpit with a hard line coming from it

I thought it was from shaving but it hasn't gone away. It has gotten smaller but sometimes when I'm sleeping and roll over I get a sharp pain from it. The last few times I've taken a shower I've noticed what feels like a hard vein coming from it. Kind of feels like a hard tenden (sp?) but something isn't right. Any ideas what this could be?

Angela, these "ropy" kind of lumps tend to be evidence of fibrocystic change, which is quite common in younger (20s-30s) women. While not dangerous, it can be painful and bothersome. At any rate, this is something you can't afford to self-diagnose; best to see a doctor in order to rule out cancer for sure, then go from there. Good luck - PJH

so could these types of lumps be anywhere on the body?

Emily, I'm a breast cancer survivor, and have studied breast cancer symptoms. But I'm not a doctor, so don't know nearly as much about other parts of the body. This would be a question for a medical professiona, so I suggest you ask your doctor, OK? PJH
