My new question or just want advice but we do not know anything yet. What are the chances and how ironic??? This cancer to ravage our entire family. I just do not understand. My sister is still recovering from her double mastectomy good outcome for her. I did the standard MRI the doctor said I should do because of our history. Well, It came back with a suspicious spot. I am having a MRI guided biopsy next Thursday-earliest they could get me in and then they told me I wouldn't know till the following Wed. And what or what I should ask is how painful is an MRI guided biopsy? They say they may have to cut a little. Isn't that a long time. Just frustrated.

Sorry for your troubles.... The wait for the MRI-guided biopsy sounds pretty average; there's usually no rush in doing biopsies, as breast cancer, in general, is a fairly slow-growing cancer. As for how much it hurts - depend on your tolerance for pain, and how far/how much they have to cut to get to the area in question. They should give you a local anesthetic, at least. In general, biopsies aren't very invasive, so you shouldn't have much pain. Please understand that MRIs are notorious for giving false-positive readings; that is, they identify a "trouble spot," and it turns out to be nothing. Also, about 85% of all biopsies are negative - so the statistics are on your side, despite your family history. Best of luck to you - PJH

Usually when they want you to wait a few months for a mammogram or MRI it's because they want to compare your two films - present, and future - and see if the spot has changed/grown.
It sounds like you don't quite trust your doctors to do the right thing. If that's the case, then probably you should ask for a long enough appointment that you can get all your questions answered (and be sure to write them down ahead of time, so you don't forget them), and put your doubts to rest; or you should ask for a second opinion. It's awfully difficult to try to micromanage your treatment plan, as a patient; there's a degre of trust you simply have to have, and if you don't have it - well, then you need to take action to develop that trust, or find a new medical team you DO trust. I have another dilemma now. I mean I know what I am doing it is just puzzeling. The radiologist called me to come and do anothe ultrasound so he could try and find what he saw on MRI because what he found was going to be very hard to get to in a MRI guided biopsy. It took awhile. They found two things that appear to be small tumors they don't know till they get in there. They believe the spot they saw on MRI is hiding in these two things but here is what I don't get if the spots come back negative that still does not mean they got what was on MRI but they will want to wait to do a mri for a few months. I think that is too long just curious why cant we do it all now I do not mean on same day but with in the month. Just curious if you ha e heard anything about this. Thank you
