Poorly Differentiated invasive Ductal Carcinoma
I had carcinoma insitu 4 1/2 years ago. I thought I was about to my 5th year celebration when this hit. Three months ago I had a regular mammogram and ultra sound exam. The ultra sound showed nothing. However there was a spot on the mammogram so I was told to come back in three months for a retake. Three months later, the spot is still there, but on the ultra sound there appeared a dark shadow. I had a biopsy and it was given the name Poorly Differentiated Invasive Ductal Carcinoma. Needless to say, I am very frightened. I am scheduled for surgery Oct. 12th, about three weeks after this was found. I read where DIDC grows very wild. Can you help me understand this?
Sure, Annie - Please read our IDC FAQS, which will tell you everything you want to know about your cancer. IDC is the most common type of breast cancer; millions of women survive it, as there's TONS of data on it, and lots of experience treating it. 80% of women with breast cancer have invasive cancer, so don't be frightened by that word, or load more meaning onto it than it really has; there's every chance this cancer has been caught early, you'll go through treatment, and continue on with a healthy life. Good luck - PJH
