Hi Kathy,

I am sorry you are having such a hard time. How low was your ejection fraction (heart efficiency)? My oncologist let me go ahead ONCE when I was at 48% but I don't think he would have gone ahead a second time, if I hadn't bounced back. Have you really tried to talk to him about how you are feeling? Could your GP help? If you don't think you are getting the care that you ought to be then you have every right to ask questions and even to ask a for second opinion.

It also sounds like you have lymphedema in your arm. There is a type of massage that really helps with this (ask your doctor or if he doesn't know ask around at the cancer centre) and some women find that it helps to wear special compression sleeve (both of these things are often covered by private insurance). I also find that staying away from salty food, drinking lots of water and exercise (to get blood circulating) really help.

As for getting therapy- that is not a bad thing (although it sounds like you are being told this in a way that isn't helpful). I find that having someone to talk to can be very helpful. What about your cancer centre social worker? Would your husband and sons be willing to talk to her? She might help to educate them about what you are going through.

Take good care and please stay in touch-

Laurie
