How painful is a sentinel node biopsy (from someone who's had one? Why don't they numb it first, like with a needle core biopsy?

I have 2 tumors in breast (separate quadrants), plus a large, suspicious node in my armpit. It seems too far from the breast to be the sentinel node, judging from the location and those of the two breast tumors. I'm more terrified of this procedure than I am of the surgery.If they'd numb the…
