Just Diagnosed with Cancer? Chat with Experts

Wednesday, September 02, 2009 Ashley asks

Q: what specialist should i go to?

I have had a little lump in my right armpit for 10 years, i found it when i was 13. It gets infected then goes back down and I haven't tried to treat it until now.

I have been to the doctor 3 times. I had blood work, chest x ray, and have been on anti biotics for an infection in my armpit, the results came back clear. The infection went down from the antibiotics but there is still a painful little thing in there. The doctor sent me for a mammogram and ultrasound of my right breast.

If the test comes back clear does anyone know what specialist the doctor should send me to. She said she didnt know????

Ashley, if your doctor doesn't know how to treat this or who you should see, then I think you should consult another doctor. Please ask her for a referral for a second opinion from someone else on the GP staff. A 10-year off-and-on infection/lump wouldn't be a sign of cancer; but it would be nice to figure out what's causing it, and take care of it once and for all, right? So ask for that referral. Good luck - PJH
