What pain meds are good for joint pain from Taxol? I tried Vicodin because I had some on hand but it only helped for a short time.

Sorry, Tiffany - This is probably something you'll have to work out for yourself, as everyone's body chemistry reacts a bit differently to painkillers. Ask your docs to keep trying you with new stuff till you get something that works long-term. Luckily, the joint pain from the taxol should dissipate pretty quickly once you're done taking it — at least, that's the exprience with most women. Hope you get some relief soon, one way or another. - PJH

I have BAD joint pain and have for years since my first bout with breast cancer.  I've been on various drugs and now my pain doc has me on OPANA ER and OPANA IR.  They are the first drugs to help control my pain.  I also started a Glucosimine regimen to help in the long run.  I also take some Advil occasionally as it helps if you have swelling joints.

Talk with a pain management specialist, one should be able to help you!

Good luck!

Bone and joint pain are very common with Taxol and PJ is absolutely right.  Everyone does well with something different.  Just keep at it until you find what works.  Glucosamine is often helpful but does have to be taken consistently.  And, it is also my experience that the pain stops pretty quickly once you are off the Taxol.

Hang in there!!
