Q: Protuding lump above the lymph nodes under the left arm pit

I have a large protuding lump that sits above the lymph nodes under the left arm pit. There is no pain or red ness and there isnt any other obvious lumps in the breast. As far as i can tell there is no swollen lymph nodes near the lump.I have a strong history of cancer on both sides of my family. The lump area has started to itch.

Hi - If this is a recent lump - e.g., one you haven't had for a year or more - then you should have it examined. I'm not sure what you mean by "above the lymph nodes," but it's close enough to your armpit and the nodes that it needs to be assessed. Please read our post on armpit lumps for information about what this might be.

By the way, unless your mother or sister or daughter had breast cancer (or two close relatives - two aunts, for instance), your family history of cancer doesn't increase your risk for breast cancer. But no sense wasting time worrying - might as well find out what this is sooner rather than later. Good luck - PJH
