Q: breast cancer and eating mushrooms to block estrogen

hi, I have estrogen positive, progesteron positive,her2neg,breast cancer. no lymph node involvement. cancer removed with clear margin. score or 6 on onchotype dx test..post menapause....just finished 35 radiation treatments...no chemo...dr. wants me to start femara in less than two weeks. I have history of high cholestral, fibromyalgia and osteoarthritis, also hot flashes...57 years old...I heard that mushroooms can also block estrogen from feeding this kind of cancer...does anyone know what the risk are of reoccurance of the cancer if I don't take the femara? what about the mushrooms everyday instead? Thank you for any advice. I am afraid of all the side effects of the femara...thank you

Jodi, you need to ask your doctor to give you the details about how other women in your situation survived with and without Femara.  Then you can decide if the no Femara route is one you want to take.  Since side effects do vary considerably from one person to another, you might want to give the Femara a try and see how you do.  I don't know if mushrooms can block estrogen, but if they can, regular portion sizes probably wouldn't give you enough.  Although many of our medicines do derive from plants, they are at a very concentrated dose.
