Should a mammogram and MRI be done together on a routine basis or spaced apart by i.e., 6 months?

Topics:Breast MRI
It has been recommended for the past 3 years that I start having breast MRIs due to dense breasts and history of previous biopsy of atypical lobular hyperplasia and papillomatosis. I had a mammogram and ultrasound in September. Should I have the MRI now or wait 6 months from recent mammogram date? What is the suggested timing after a mammogram and how strict are the guidelines?

Karen, I've never heard of any guidelines for this. Far as I know, the two are given in conjunction. But if you ask your doctor, I'll bet he/she will be able to tell you the intended schedule. Good luck - PJH
