Jewel, I don't think there's any danger of your cancer treatment not working because you continued to work through treatment... If your breast feels heavy, this could be a sign of lymphedema. Please mention this feeling of heaviness to your doctor, and ask about lymphedema, as it's not something you want to ignore. As for the pain, it could be scar tissue; or it could be the result of radiation; or it could be...? If you're not satisfied with the answers your doctor is giving you, it's perfectly fine for you to ask for a second opinion from another doctor. I don't think it's unreasonable to want to know what's causing this pain, as well as the heaviness. Good luck, and I hope you get this straightened out soon. PJH
Jewel, I also worked through most of my treatment, and I'm fine 12 years later despite a diagnosis of a Stage IIIB cancer. So don't worry about working affecting the effectiveness of your treatment.
I don't know how long you have had the pain and swelling, but I agree with PJ that you need to find out what it is. If the pain comes and goes, the cause is less likely to be something serious; but it is still important to find out. If the swelling is lymphedema, treating it promptly is important. If these problems have lasted a month or more, go back to your doctor or ask for a referral for a second opinion.
