Q: xtra heavy periods while on tamoxifen

Hello everyone.  My sister has been on tamoxifen for 1 1/2 years now,  finished chemo in aug of 2009 and started tmoxifen right after.   She did not get her period for about 8 months, but than she started her period every 3-4 month with extreme bleeding (had to use diapers).   she is still getting that.  Has anyone else experienced this?   I thought tamoxifen put you in menopause.  Anything on the matter would be greatly appreciated.Thank you

Actually, tamoxifen doesn't put your into menopause - it makes you more fertile than ever, so your sister should be aware of that. And, in some women, it produces extra-heavy bleeding.

I hope she's reported these side effects to her oncologist; s/he would want to know about this and any other unusual health issues your sister is experiencing. PJH
