Just Diagnosed with Cancer? Chat with Experts

Friday, October 01, 2010 AJ asks

Q: I am a 28 (almost 29) y/o female who had a hysterectomy 19 months ago and was put on ERT. I was just diagnosed with Hashimoto's disease and yesterday found a lump in my right breast.

I've had two fibroadenomas removed from my right breast already and this lump feels different from the other two. The other two were located in fatty tissue, around the edge of the breast. This lump is more in the center of the breast (by the nipple...but deeper down). It isn't round like the other two. It feels almost triangular/odd shaped. My grandma was diagnosed with breast cancer 10 or 12 years ago and is doing fine. What do you think?

I think from your description, your age, and your history this is probably an additional fibroadenoma; and I also think you can't afford to ignore it. Any breast change that lasts longer than about a month needs to be checked out by your doctor. So keep your eye on it as you go through a menstrual cycle; if it's still there, see your doctor. Good luck - PJH
