Just Diagnosed with Cancer? Chat with Experts

Saturday, November 12, 2011 trina asks

Q: Hi, I'm waiting on the results of my 2nd stereotactic biopsy (cluster of microcalcifications on left breast. I've had extreme fatigue for over 6 months; wondering if that's a symptom?

I'm 43; had endometrial cancer when I was 38; I also have Lynch Syndrome; are my chances of getting breast cancer high, now that I have microcalcifications? If I didn't have fatigue I wouldn't be so concerned.....thank you.

Hi - I'm sorry you're having to go through the bopsy process; it's stressful, for sure. While there's no known link among endometrial cancer and breast cancer and Lynch Syndrome, I'm sure you're uneasy that there may be something researchers don't yet know.

Fatigue isn't a recognized breast cancer symptom; in fact, breast cancer is usually pretty symptom-less, unless you find a lump. However, clustered microcalcifications can be an indication that you're in the very early stages of breast cancer, which is why your doctor ordered the biopsies. Still, about 85% of all breast biopsies are negative, so the odds are with you; hold onto that thought as you await your results, OK? Take care, and I hope you get good news soon- PJH
