Usually we advise people to see their doctors for any breast change that lasts a month or more because so many breast problems will come and go over the course of a menstrual cycle.  Reading this article about itchy breasts can give you some background information and tips that might be good home remedies.  It's not a good idea to use anti-itch creams for an indefinite period, so if it does not get better on its own soon, you need to see a doctor for more ideas about what could be causing this and other treatments.  I don't think you need to be worried.  When nipple itching is cancer related, there are usually other symptoms like a scaly rash.  But itching is so annoying, you will want to follow through until you figure out what is going on.

Artsee, thanks for sharing your experience here. While itching isn't a typical sign of breast cancer, it looks like in your case there was a connection. That's why it's important to get ANY breast change lasting longer than a month checked by a doctor; we all have our own breast cancer experiences, and they're all different. Hope you're doing well - PJH

Artsee, we appreciate your taking the time to share your experience here.  Itchy breasts are very common, and most of the time the cause is not cancer related.  Itching, however, can be an early symptom of two uncommon cancers, Paget's Disease of the Breast and Inflammatory Breast Cancer.  My first breast cancer symptom was tenderness, followed within a week or two by intense itching deep in my breast.  This is why it is so important for people to see a doctor for any breast changes, even when they don't feel a lump.  I don't know if your tumor could have been found more quickly.  It may be that a tiny tumor too small to be detected was pushing on a nerve or displacing tissue in such a way that you experienced itching.

What happened was, I had a very light pigmented 1/2 " aera which at times itched so bad it turned pink from scratching. It so happened that the tumor was right below that in the duct. I read at the time the itching can be a sighn . I'm doing well...just got off an AI 3 weeks ago and I feel worse since I"ve gone of of it. Maybe it needs to get out of my system? Ache all over, but tolerable. I was hoping that some of this would dissapear when I went off of Lertrozol.

Hopefully your body is just readjusting itself to the medication being done. I felt better once I got off my AI, Arimidex. Good luck - hope you get over the achiness soon. PJH
