Q: my wife has triple neg breast cancer it is 1.4 cm. We have one doc saying lumpectomy with radiation and another that says mastectomy with cemo its her choice but what makes more sense

Very tough decision, Jon. First, read our post on triple negative breast cancer, if you haven't seen it yet. Most women I know with TNBC do have chemo, as it's basically the first, best, and nearly only line of defense against recurrence, aside from surgery.

 

I'd ask the two doctors what the data shows as far as her odds for recurrence, one treatment vs. the other. While no one truly knows what will happen to your wife - after all, these are odds and averages - it would be good to know that statistically speaking, her risk of recurrence is X% with one treatment option, vs. Y% with the other.
