monitoring residual cancer after lumpectomy

after lumpectomy, how can we make sure that no cancerous cell is left inside, when it is diagnosed IDC.and how accurate is that diagnosis.what are the options to treat it , if cancerous cells are left in sorrounding tissue and on what the treatment option depends. please suggest/advice...
