Q: What time frame is considered safe for post menapausal...when considering Femera use??

Senerio:: Women is premenapausal at time of breast CA diagnosis

Post surgery had...PE

Tamoxafin has high risk of blood clots therefore can not be taken in this case

Chemo put women in medication induced menapause

Post chemo...Zolodex given to continue medication induced Menapause until ovaries can be taken out

What medication is the best option as a adjavuct therapy (5 yrs following treatment)

What are the potential side effects of Femera if taken with medically induced postmenapause.

Menapausal via Chemo x approx. 3mths then Zolodex for 2 mths prior to starting Femara??

What is your professional opinion, please and thank you!

Any suggestions for other medications to consider??

Hi - Please be advised, we're not professionals here, and have no medical training. We're simply well-read breast cancer survivors.

 

I believe you can ascertain via blood tests if you're truly post-menopausal. And you definitely would be, of course, once your ovaries are removed. An aromatase inhibitor (Femara, Aromasin, Arimidex) would be the best choice for hormone-receptive breast cancer, post-menopause. There's no other drug besides an AI that will provide the same protection. For potential side effects, please read our AI FAQS.

 

Whether menopause is natural or chemo-induced or brought on by removal of the ovaries doesn't matter - bototm line is your ovaries have shut down, and that's what directs the choice between tamoxifen vs. an AI. Good luck - PJH
