Just Diagnosed with Cancer? Chat with Experts

Wednesday, February 11, 2009 Gerty asks

Q: Itchy nipple, has turned white looks like lack of blood supply.

I have had an itchy nipple for around 7 years. I have been to see a breast consultant and had a scan last year, result clear. I have also seen a skin consultant who prescribed cream, which did not help. I have noticed over the past 6 months, that my nipple has turned white. It seems like there is a lack of blood supply. If I nip it to relieve the itch, it turns red, and it seems that the blood supply returns for a short time. I feel I can't go back to the doctors, as I don't want to be a nausance. Have you any idea what this is?

Gerty, sorry you've had this long-standing issue! Must be aggravating. Since you've been to a breast consultant, not sure what other recourse you have. I've never heard of anything like this. On the other hand, never worry about being a "nuisance" to doctors. They're there to help you. If you're bothered by your nipple, and the docs you've seen so far can't help you, search around and see if you can find someone else to take a look at it. Perhaps Google "breast specialist" and see what you can find in your area. Good luck - PJH
