Just Diagnosed with Cancer? Chat with Experts

Monday, August 24, 2009 angie asks

Q: Hi:I have a lump which has not gone away, and then the dimple appeard.

Hi:I had the sniffels, post nasal drip etc, last week then my brest (Left) got very sore, so i imagined it was maybe part of this cold , so I waited and a few days later it went down but I have a lump which has not gone away, and then the dimple appeard. What do you think the chances of cancer maybe?  I do not feel any other lumps under my arms or neck. I just thought it might be a lymphnode that was sore due to my cold.

Since your breast symptoms started with a systemic infection (your cold), it is very possible that your breast symptoms are related.  If that lump doesn't go away pretty soon after your cold symptoms are better, you should check with your doctor to find out for sure what it is.  If the lump is red or swollen, you should check with your doctor right away since it might be an infection.  This doesn't sound like a typical breast cancer presentation, but if that lump continues, a doctor will need to look at it to be sure.

Thank you. My cold is gone now, but I'm not taking any chances. I have a doctor appointment for Friday. My last mamogram was last November and I do get one every yr. I just turned 60 so I make sure i get yearly physicals also.

God bless you for helping , I know we get so nervous when things like this happen.

The more I research the scarier it gets. Boy it seems that this thing can pop up without any real notice or show on mamo's it is only 10 months since I had one and I'm not even schedualed until nov.

It seems there are so many diffrent kinds and severity. The research I have done paints a dim picture.

I know I should not panic and I am in God's Hands but what I may be facing is very concerning. I am a bit of a couar, I am not sure I can do what it takes.

Thank you for being there for me.
