Just Diagnosed with Cancer? Chat with Experts

Thursday, May 14, 2009 Ms M asks

Q: Can radiation make your eyes uncomfortable?

I thought I had read every possible side effect but haven't come across this, started rads last week and now have kind of a burning sensation in my eyes, like if I hadn't gotten much sleep. Is this just part of the fatigue I can expect? Thanks.

Yes, this could be a side effect. We all have our own personal side effects, unfortunately; we don't necessarily go "by the book!" Perhaps you could go to CVS or your favorite pharmacy and ask the pharmacist what he/she recommends for dry eyes; I'm sure they can give you something to try. FYI, I had this same side effect, though not sure if it was from chemo or radiation... Good luck, hope you find something that helps. PJH
