Q: any experience with unknown moving 'something' in my breast. specialists are baffled

hello all, mammo and ultrasound found unknown 'something' that moves around or between my cyst and lymph in my breast.  specialists have looked and are baffled, they want to do a needle biopsy, but is this safe as they don't know what this is and how will they hold it still to poke at it?  any suggestions? I am in the san jose, california area and need a really experienced breast cancer surgeon.  thanks and god bless all- rebecca

Hi Rebecca - Don't worry about the needle biopsy; breast surgeons are very skilled at this type of surgery. Here's a list of Comprehensive Cancer Centers (there are quite a few in California), which are government-designated top-ranked cancer treatment facilities. Any of those would have more than one excellent breast surgeon to choose from. Good luck - PJH

"Please help me: My oncologist and other doctors appear confused. I have a large breast lump that appeared very very suddenly (2 cm), mobile, wasn't there during my mammogram 5 months ago and it has doubled in size in under a week! I'm 52, never had children and have a bad family history with this from both sides. Very high risk. I can't sleep- I know how this type of cancer usually goes and all the gritty details, but this is very odd! Any ideas out there?

PS. I am on antibiotics and anti-inflammatory drugs as prescribed by oncologist. I am also taking natural remedies from Indonesia and China. (I'm ex-Canadian expat converted to Indonesian). I don't like taking so much medication, but nothing is working!  Jenny"

You seem very nice and caring, so I guess you are a wnner and I would like to keep in touch. It seems so lonely.

Regards, Jen

Jen, Understand that as far as family history goes, if your mother or sister had breast cancer, your risk is increased; otherwise, it's not. So you may not be at very high risk. A lump that's moveable and doubles in size in under a week doesn't sound like cancer. I'm wondering why your oncologist doesn't do a biopsy, to rule out cancer? Are they going the antibiotic route first, and then schedule a biopsy if that doesn't take care of it? I hope that's the plan. In the meantime - hang in there. And stay in touch here - we can help. Thanks PJ. You are really a gem. I had a needle biopsy and am waiting on the results. I was not very happy when he said results or not, I had to have an operation to remove it. I think he believes it is IBC. Kind of makes sense from what I've read so far. Your opinion? Thanks, Jen

Jen, it doesn't sound like IBC to me, but I'm not the expert. I guess there's no sense trying to figure out what it is when you'll know soon enough. It's tempting to worry and think of all the awful possibilities - but you know what? Worry accomplishes NOTHING other than making you feel awful. Hope you get the results soon - and in the meantime, try to do stuff you like. Read a book - go for long walks - be with friends? You're stronger than you know - we all are. And you'll get through this. I'm sending you good energy, OK? PJH

Hi PJ:

Your energy is amazing and works. Thank you so much.  What ever the results, it's just so comforting to have someone to talk to honestly. BTW, I don't worry about me. I only worry about my loved ones. Either way, this works to my advantage. We are talking about this and the larger issues. But that's family stuff. I value your opinion and would like to keep in touch. IBC or not, you and so many others are making a difference in our lives. When the doctors can't heal, we have you and others who think and care and make everything OK for us. Again, thanks. Jen
