Q: Worried about reddish splotchy area and flat/slightly inverted nipple on R breast. What is it?

I have had three tumors removed in the last 4 1/2 months in three surgeries (LCIS, DCIS and ILC). Now I have a reddish splotchy area on one breast with a nipple that is flat and sometimes inverted. I also have a small pink swollen area on the other breast on the lower edge of my areola. I'm 5 days into a second antibiotic and nothing has changed. I know there is something wrong, but no one seems to be concerned. Anyone have an idea? I'm tired of taking antibiotics that don't fix the problem.

Hi - Given your history, I'd definitely pursue this. It would be incredibly unusual to have IBC affecting both breasts at once, but you want to get to the bottom of this, especially the inverted nipple. So advocate for yourself; be firm. Say you'd like a mammogram, expecially on the breast with the inverted nipple. And if they say "no need," tell them, given your history, that you're very stressed, and really need find out what's oging on, and deal with it, if necessary. Good luck - PJH
