Pathology results
I have multiple solid masses in the left axilla, but no breast tumors showed on a mammogram in july. I had a biopsy (Core and FNA) last Friday and just got results. The path report says "The finding of a monotonous appearing lymphoid population may indicate a lymphoproliferative disorder. They are awaiting results of flow cytometry to make further diagnosis and if that test does not give enough results, then they will do a surgical biopsy. I have researched this a bit and it seems to me that the "monotonous appearing" is indicative of some type of malignancy, although most seem highly treatable. Am I correct that "monotonous" would indicate some type of malignancy? Is there any case where "monotonous" can be present without a malignancy?
Hi - I'm not a doctor, and have no medical background, but from what I understand, "lymphoproliferative" usually refers to some sort of malignancy of the lymph cells, not necessarily from breast cancer. I think the best thing to do, difficult as it is, is to wait fo rthe results of your other tests, then discuss with your doctor. (S)he will certainly give you better information about your particular diagnosis/prognosis than the generalized info. you'll find online. Good luck to you - PJH
