Jan- Red, dry, itchy eyes are indeed a common side effect of chemo. No one told me this until it happened to me, though! I thought I had an eye infection. Your oncologist can prescribe eye drops that really help.

Good luck with your treatment and take good care-

My eyes didn't bother me throughout the chemo, but now I've been done with chemo for several months and I find my eyes feeling "gluey," like something is in them. I thought I developed an infection from maybe my immune system being trashed? I thought going through the chemo was the hard part, but this post-chemo fatique and eye problems, etc. is getting old !

If your eyes continue to bother you, please see your doctor. "Gluey" sounds like an eye infection - I don't know if this would be due to a weakened immune system. However, I do know what you mean - sometimes the side effects feel relentless. Hang in there. And do feel you have the right to insist that all side effects be taken seriously.

Take good care-

This could be bleheritis - I  had it during chemo and still get it sometimes.  But it could also be conjunctivitis.  The former can be handled by washing the eyes with baby shampoo a few times a day and soaking with a hot compress several times a day.  But the latter needs an eye antibiotic.

Hi - Always ask your doctor before treating yourself with ANYTHING during chemo. Your body is very susceptible to everything right now, and you don't want to upset your "chemical balance" any more than it already is by self-treatment that might not be quite "what the doctor ordered." Thanks for listening - PJH

It was the chemo doing it for me. Told the ongologist he just said its normal.  and prescribed nothing for it when I asked.  Every time you mention something new you are told............................................. Its normal............. Very helpful indeed, when your feeling svared for your life at the time...
