Just Diagnosed with Cancer? Chat with Experts

Wednesday, April 20, 2011 JoseeM asks

Q: Hi,for 2 weeks, my left breast has been itching like crazy. I've tried cream for eczema a few times but it doesn't stop the itching. Should I be worried and go see a Dr. ASAP?

Almost a year ago I was diagnose with a thyroid problem. This was found after I was having milk coming out of both of my breasts (i've never been pregnant). Now, only my left breast is itchy and very very sensitive. I've researched a little online and, I have to say, I'm a little scared.

Hi - This sounds very uncomfortable indeed, but please don't be scared. I'm sure you're worried about inflammatory breast cancer, but considering how rare it is, and how many other reasons there are for breast itchiness, try not to stress. Seeing a doctor would be the best way to get the information you need to put this behind you, so best to make an appointment. In the meantime, our post on itchy breasts should give you some insight into possible causes. Hope this resolves itself soon- PJH
