Just Diagnosed with Cancer? Chat with Experts

Saturday, January 31, 2009 amy9597 asks

Q: my left breast itches with warmth and blue veins could this be serious?

This started about 6 months ago, I do have pain in my breasts(both), and the itching comes and goes, along with looking swollen with "blue" veins running through where it itches.  I did have a breast reduction about 12 years ago, but the itching and swelling is not near the scars.

Amy, considering this has been going on for 6 months, it's probably not inflammatory breast cancer, which would have worsened by now. And pain in both your breasts probably isn't a sign of breast cancer - it's would be increibly unusual for it to present symptoms in both breats at once. Nevertheless, any breast change should be checked out by a doctor, so best to make an appointment and see what's up, OK? Good luck - PJH

I had the itching, swelling, and blue veins, as well.  I was 35 when I was diagnosed with breast cancer.  Have you done a self breast exam? I found my lump about a week after I did a breast exam while showering.  It was like it popped up over night. The lump was very large and I couldn't understand why I didnt feel it a week before.  what I'm trying to say is,  go get a mamogram. It is very important that you do this.  I'm not tryng to scare you.  It is probably nothing to worry about. You must be proactive and aggressive with your health!  It has been 5 years since my diagnosis, and I wouldn't be here today if I wouldn't have demanded testing to be done, due to my age.  Take care and good luck to you.
