Doctor said they found a lymph node under my left breast 2 1/2 cm

My mom is 76 and she had a mammagram then an ultrasound and they saw a 2 1/2 cm lymph node under left breast am worried. Could this also be from an infection or a recent illness or does it mean definitely cancer. Please respond. Thank You Sue M.
