Just Diagnosed with Cancer? Chat with Experts

Wednesday, January 05, 2011 buttercup23 asks

Q: I have a red spot on my breast. It started out as a pimple and now is just a red spot. I am driving myself crazy of what this could be from what I have been reading. It's been there about 2 months.

Hi - If it started as a pimple, and then settled into a just a red spot - and it doesn't seem to be getting worse - then it's probably nothing to worry about. It could be just your skin taking awhile to recover from the infection. A red spot on your breast, unless it gets larger, and/or develops into something noticeably worse - e.g., your breast seems infected (red, hot, swollen, itchy, painful) – wouldn't be a breast cancer symptom.

Keep your eye on this. If it doesn't gradually fade away, then for your peace of mind you'd probably want to see a doctor, OK? Take care- PJH

Thank you for the quick response. After I looked at it again today better, there seems to be a tiny bump on the skin and the redness around it .....After I shower it's always redder then it fades a little throughout the day. I am going for my annual pap smear at the end of the month so I will have my gynecologist look at it then. Maybe he will know what it is? It just keeps driving me crazy.

That's a good idea - make sure to note approximately when this appeared, so the doctor knows how long it's been going on, OK? Take care- PJH
